Women’s Style: Five Ways To Wear The Plaid Shirt

5Ways.JPG

Every gal’s wardrobe needs a great plaid shirt—whether it’s a rustic flannel or a tailored cotton broadcloth. Lucky for, well, everyone, Rugby’s winter line-up has a wide variety of styles that cover all the bases. With suede patches, statement shoulders, ruffles, bows and crests in the mix, we think there’s a perfect shirt for everyone. Once you’ve found yours, may we recommend giving it the famed Five Ways treatment? That way, you can live in your favorite shirt while keeping it looking fresh along the way. After the jump, Shuly from our New York store models the Bowie ruffled flannel shirt — a super soft flannel with ruffles down the front -- in five different looks.

1. Work It
Perfect for the office, monochrome looks are smart and stylish—especially when they make use of multiple textures. Give this style-standby a pop of color (not to mention a layer of warmth) by wearing your plaid shirt underneath. It’s a fresh take on a classic look and it’s tres work appropriate.

2. Girl’s Night Out
Hanging with the girls is all about being your true (fabulous) self, and what better way to capture that spirit than with a look that is both comfortable and nighttime-chic? Knit black leggings and ankle boots join function and fashion while a sharp little blazer over your plaid shirt brings it all together.

3. Holiday Party
Give holiday looks a laid-back flair by mixing casual and formal elements. A burnished gold skirt is given a rustic edge when paired with your plaid—extra points for the texture play too. If this look proves too statement-making for your taste, pair your plaid shirt with black tuxedo trousers or a black lace skirt for a slightly more subdued, but equally chic, take.

4. Ski Lodge Chic
Finally snagged a weekend away with your man? Cozy up by the fire or trek it into town for a hot lunch—this winter look is out-of-control cute and practical, too. The formula is simple: pair your plaid shirt with slim dark jeans, rugged outdoor boots and a cozy puffer vest.

5. Weekend Warrior
Conjure plaid’s grunge-era heritage for a weekend look that’s sexy and cool. Slip into a ribbed Henley and boyfriend jeans and tie your plaid shirt around your waist. Feel a chill? Throw your plaid shirt on and keep it unbuttoned and un-cuffed.
